Switching through Voltz

Electricity deregulation or an open electricity market gives you a wider selection of independent electricity retailers to choose from. More choices promote competition, which benefits you. You can expect greater savings, improved service, and bundled offers that may benefit your usage profile when you switch.

No matter which retailer you choose to buy electricity from, SP Group will continue to operate the national power grid and deliver electricity to everyone. The only thing that changes is the retailer that you pay for your monthly electricity bills and who manages your account.

As SP Group will continue to operate the national power grid and deliver electricity to everyone, the reliability and quality of your electricity supply will be the same regardless of the retailer you choose.

Your electricity supply will not be affected by the changeover as the transfer process is purely administrative and will be performed electronically by the licensed retailer you choose.
No, don’t worry. The transfer is purely administrative and no physical changes are required at your premise, meaning the reliability and quality of electricity supply will remain the same regardless of the retailer you choose.

Only if you have opted to install a smart meter will there be a temporary supply disruption of no more than 30 minutes while SP Group is changing your meter. Your retailer will advise you directly.
Certainly. Voltz can help you compare, find the best price plan, and switch to a new retailer whether you are a residential and/or business consumer. The processes for both are similar and straightforward.
Wholesale Indexed Plans do require an AMI meter. Most electricity price plans however don’t require a change of meter. If required, it will be stated in the factsheet of the respective plans. There may be a one-time charge of $40 payable to the retailer for a meter change. It is advisable to refer to the respective plans’ terms and conditions for full details.
No. The switching process is hassle-free for you through Voltz. Once you’ve signed up for your preferred plan, your retailer will work directly with SP Group or your current retailer to perform the switch for you.

Nonetheless, if you are in a contract with an independent retailer, it would be advisable to refer to your terms and conditions for further details.
Congratulations! Once you’ve completed your seamless switch on Voltz, you will receive an email from us detailing all the information about your new plan purchase. No further action is needed on your part.

Your new retailer will get in touch with you within 3 working days and your new contract can start as early as 5 business days after your retailer requests for a transfer of your account from SP Group or your current independent electricity retailer. Your new retailer will contact you once the transfer is complete and there will not be any disruption to your electricity supply.
You should receive a notification from your new retailer (via letter, email and/or SMS). Your monthly bills will also indicate the start and end date of your contract.
Your electricity bill will be sent to you directly by the retailer of your choice, instead of SP Group. However, you may continue to receive bills by SP Group if your new retailer has engaged SP Group as their billing vendor. Your retailer will advise you directly.
Your gas, water and refuse bills will still be administered by SP Group.
You can find all the information about your new plan in the confirmation email you will receive after the transaction on Voltz is complete. Do check your spam folder if you cannot find the email in your inbox. You can also access your plan(s) information in the ‘my account’ section when you log in to your Voltz account.
To avoid disputes, you are advised to check the terms and conditions of your current contract to determine if there are any costs, and other terms and conditions associated with switching to another retailer (e.g. early termination charge).
Yes. Voltz is a free service for comparing electricity price plans.

If you know when your contract with your current retailer is ending, you may register to view price plans by entering the corresponding start date of your next electricity contract.

You can leave your details with Voltz if you are not eligible to switch. We will get in touch with you once you are eligible so you won’t miss out on the best offers on Voltz.
No. You have the freedom to switch to any retailer that best suits your electricity needs.
The price plan that you have purchased through Voltz will be valid for the entire length of the contract. Depending on the type of plan, your electricity rate per kWh may change. It would be advisable to fully read and understand the details of the plan before making your purchase.
Auto renewal of contracts is dependent on individual retailers. Voltz will notify you when your contract is about to expire and we will also recommend the best plans to switch to at that point of time.
When you compare plans through Voltz, you will be able to see how much you could save on a new electricity price plan.

The estimated savings for each plan are calculated based on data provided directly by retailers, in comparison to the past 2-year SP tariff average, and are intended to give you an indication of how much money you could save if you switch.

Your actual savings will also be dependent on your usage and consumption pattern.

Starting an Auction through Voltz

Starting an auction will further encourage competition amongst electricity retailers, ultimately lowering prices for you. You may find better rates as retailers compete to offer their best bids in real-time. The only way to find the best possible price plan is to start an auction.

Voltz receives preferential rates due to the volume deals from high demand in this online platform. The rates are live and transparent upon purchase. Retailers are bound to the price plans/rates and will need to honour their bidding rate stated in this dynamic process.
Voltz will be the first electricity comparison portal in Singapore that will benefit consumers with the option to put their requirements on auction for retailers to offer their best bid.

  1. You will first be presented with standard electricity price plans
    Once you register with Voltz and enter your details and consumption requirements, we automatically generate a list of electricity plans from licensed retailers. Only plans that match your needs and requirements will be presented to you. If you’re happy with the plans and savings, you can go ahead and make your purchase.
  2. Start an auction
    If you wish to get a better deal than what’s on the static comparison page, you can initiate an auction. You have the autonomy to enable the auction for 24, 48 or 72 hours. Once you begin the auction, retailers can start bidding in real-time and you will be able to see the prices updated live.
  3. Monitor at your own time
    You can monitor the progress of the auction at any time within the selected bidding period to see the best price plan options. Voltz is also able to list the best options for you based on your requirements through filters (i.e. highest savings, green energy, etc.).
  4. Make a selection
    A selection and purchase of the preferred electricity plan can be made anytime within the stipulated bidding period or upon the completion of the auction. If you would like to wait until the end of the auction, you will have an additional 24 hours to evaluate the options and complete your purchase.
  5. Confirm your purchase to lock in the best deal
    Customers are advised to select and confirm the purchase of their preferred price plan as only upon selection of the plan are retailers required to honour their bids to you. This will also include any related rewards (i.e. gifts, vouchers, etc.).

At Voltz, our aim is to provide you with the best possible price plans that are exclusively available only through our auction. As such, retailers will be taking some time to offer you their best bid, which they will need to honour when you select their plans.

To ensure fairness, Voltz will require you to enter your credit card details to secure a nominal fee as an authorisation to start an auction.

Open Electricity Market

The Energy Market Authority (EMA) has been deregulating the electricity market in phases since 2001, starting with businesses in Singapore. This was done to promote competition and hence increase efficiency in the electricity market.

This liberalisation effort has already benefited contestable consumers (businesses registered in Singapore) with lower rates, bundled and innovative products as well as improved service.

With the open electricity market, the remaining 1.4 million accounts in Singapore, including households, will be able to purchase electricity from private licensed retailers, instead of SP Group at the regulated tariff.
Currently, business consumers with an average monthly consumption of at least 2,000 kWh (equivalent to a monthly electricity bill of at least $400) are eligible to switch to become contestable, meaning they can buy electricity from a licensed retailer. Eligible business consumers are allowed to add up their electricity usage across different locations in Singapore to meet the threshold to become contestable.

When the Open Electricity Market is fully launched, there will no longer be a minimum average monthly consumption threshold required if consumers want to become contestable.

Since the soft launch on 1st April 2018, consumers with postal codes starting with 60, 61, 62, 63 or 64 for their premises already have the option to buy electricity from licensed retailers.

This choice and flexibility will be extended to consumers in the rest of Singapore by the end of 2018.
